Wishing you all a great summer

As we come to the end of another busy and exciting school year, our students and staff head off for their well-earned summer holidays, I would like to thank all our parents and carers for their wonderful support this year. It is this support that makes everything we want to achieve possible.

I know that you will join me in thanking our amazing staff team for their commitment, enthusiasm and care that they have shown throughout the year. I am extremely proud to be the Headteacher of a school with such brilliant staff.

Lastly, but absolutely by no means least, I would like to thank our super students. They are the reason we all come here to The Castle School each day to try and work hard to ensure they achieve all the things we know they are capable of.

Have a great summer and we will see all our students ready to learn on Monday 5th September 2016.

Many Thanks,

Jon Hewitt
Headteacher

Richmond's Tennis Tea-Party

In keeping with the summer Wimbledon vibe, Richmond Class had a Tennis Tea-Party last week. They invited pupils from Tintagel and Chillingham Classes to join them for fun. Here are some pictures of the lovely event:

Sainsbury's Vouchers - A Thank You!

I would like to say a huge thank you to everyone who sent in Sainsbury's Vouchers. We ended up with an incredible total of 16,000! This is amazing and means we are able to book a range of dance and sports instructors to come into school during sports week next year.

New-Age Kurling

Castle pupils once again made the school and county proud at The Berkshire Games. This time playing the disability game of new-age kurling. The secondary team was made up of Kirk, Katy, Ethan and Ellie. The team came in at an impressive 4th place, after winning 2 games and drawing on the rest. The joint 6th place Primary team consisted of Maddie, Adam, Jonny and Harry. They drew 4 games and lost 2.

Special Olympics success

On Sunday a Post-16 team of 7 students (Ryan, Thomas, Rodney, Alisha, Jane Marie, Luke and Tyrell) excelled competing in the Special Olympics athletics competition near Windsor.

Each student  did one track and one field event and six were in the 4x100m relay teams.

They came home with 5 gold, 5 silver and 3 bronze medals! They had only had 3 practices before this event and today showed fantastic determination and excellent team work. We are very proud of them.

Duke of Edinburgh expedition

12 Students set off to do their Duke of Edinburgh expedition recently.   Their mode of travel was Canadian Canoe which they mastered; negotiating bends, banks, trees and vessels throughout the two days on the Oxford Thames.  Their project was to visit two museums and compare. So, on the first day we paddled down the Thames to Oxford's History of Science museum, where we met both dinosaur, bear and bee. The next day we visited the Modern Art Museum to encounter a church full of bath tubs and an interesting wall showing possible picture progression.  At night students were responsible for putting up their own tents and cooking for themselves;  after which they enjoyed marshmallows around the campfire.    For some this was their practice expedition, but for four students, Amber, Abbie, Thomas and Jane Marie it was the final expedition and meant the successful completion of their DOE Bronze Award.   In the words of the assessor 'I saw fantastic team work, and was impressed with the cooking and the way they have helped each other'.
